About our Berkhamsted Accommodations

The Pennyfarthing Hotel is a tastefully extended grade 2 listed building, which used to be the Monks House in Berkhamsted dating from the 16th century. Until 50 years ago The Pennyfarthing Hotel's premises were broached on each side by the very famous 'Lanes Nurseries' where vines where grown and exported to France and Germany among others.

The spelling of Berkhamsted's name has changed over the years, pre 1937 different variations included Berkhampstead, Muche Barkhamstede, Berkhamsted Magna, Great Berkhamsted and Berkhamstead although to most locals the town is warmly referred to as Berko.

The Pennyfarthing Hotel would like to thank every one of our customers who have chosen to recommend us to their colleagues, families and friends and will continue to offer an excellent standard of service and accommodation to all of our guests.  With an investment into our rooms and facilities in 2007 combined with a dedicated team full of experience (currently our Head of Housekeeping has been with us for 12+ years, our Head of Reception has been with us for 6 years and our General Manager has 18 years experience with in the Hotel industry) The Pennyfarthing Hotel is based on a quality product with a quality of service that is unrivalled.

"I want to thank you and your staff for a wonderful stay. Your staff were most accommodating and it was so wonderful to enjoy a full English Breakfast. I have been over her in Europe for over a week now, the bread and cheese for breakfast here in The Netherlands was getting a bit tiresome. Thank you again and a job well done to your staff. Cheers, bob "
